Renumber / Change Activity ID for all activities to be ascending perfectly in Primavera P6

When creating an activity list for a project in Primavera P6, we often add activities in a non-sequential manner. As a result, the final list of Activity IDs may not follow a clean ascending order, as shown in the example below:

To organize the Activity IDs in ascending order, follow these steps:

1. Select all activities in your project.
2. Go to the Edit menu and choose Renumber Activity IDs.
3. Adjust the Prefix if needed, then click OK.

However, you might notice that the Activity IDs are still not perfectly ascending.

What went wrong?

The issue usually lies in the current sorting settings. To ensure the renumbering works correctly, you need to clear any existing sort criteria before renumbering.

Here’s how:

1. Go to the View menu and select Group and Sort.
2. Click the Sort button.
3. In the Sort dialog, click the Delete button to remove all sort criteria.
4. Click OK to apply the changes.

Now, repeat the renumbering process:

• Go to Edit > Renumber Activity IDs, adjust the prefix if necessary, and click OK.

This time, the Activity IDs should be perfectly ascending.
