In Primavera, sometimes we see there is an Asterisk (*) appears next to the date in the Start or Finish column but no constraints have been applied to the activity.
Why does it happen? I’ll explain here.
The asterisk appears if the activities have relationships to external projects.
This project I receive from my friend and import to the system but he did not export the “external” project. So Primavera display an Asterisk to notify me.
When exporting a project, the external relationships are not included in the XER file, unless the other project is exported too.
To remove the asterisk, thereby removing the external relationships, add two columns to show the ‘External Early Start’ and ‘External Late Finish’
Remove the external dates from these columns. Next, reschedule and the asterisk will no longer appear in the Start and Finish columns and the dates will not be held in the future.

my subcontractor presented a remaining work program (in pdf) where the finish dates contained * with all floats negative.. does this mean that presented programme is not correct?

Hi Arlene,
That means the subcontractor utilised a “constraint” in the finish dates. Usually, a schedule with negative float is only used for certain analysis work such as to show that the project is being late.
